Welcome to HHS Theatre Slam Poetry

"I want to provide my students with another outlet to express whatever it is that they are going through, so I started the Slam Poetry Team."

Who Are We?

The Slam Poetry Team is a group of young artists not just reciting original poems, but utilizing their life experiences and theatrical education to bring their poems to life through performance.

What Do We Do?

During meetings, poets will write, rehearse and prepare for public performances.  Poets will also be chosen to perform in various events (Covid willing) including the HHS Black History Show in February, the Talent Show, at A Night of Original Plays every year in May and to represent the HHS Slam Poetry Team at numerous competitions around Houston.

Below you can watch a few of our past poets competing with their original poems.

When & Where Do We Meet?

As a valuable member of the team, you will be expected to attend ALL poetry rehearsals from

3:00pm - 4:30pm in room #2156. Typically there are 1-2 Tuesday rehearsals a month.

If you’re you looking to hone your skills, meet other young writers and work with professional performance poets- attend the Youth Poetry Workshops.
